HOME ALONE Adventure Comedy Family

I think we have everyone everything except...KEVIN!!!

I never really realised the actual age of Home Alone. I always assumed that the movie came out around the years of my childhood. Home Alone has been 1 of my favorite movies of all time simply because of its entertaining screenplay. The movie surrounds Kevin Mccallister, a kid who wishes his family disappears and wakes up a few days before Christmas to realise he got exactly what he wanted.
At first

Home Alone is a movie I look forward to watching every Christmas. To me it is the official mark of the Christmas festival. This movie, my family around me, presents, Danish cookies and ham with a cold Peardrax is my Trini Christmas. I can never get enough of it. And as the years go by I enjoy this movie more and more. There were parts I laughed my belly full like when the mother was at the airport to only realize that Macaulay Culkin aka Kevin was left at home. Too funny! But the one thing I loved about this movie was that writer John Hughes  highlighted the fact that there are some children who are very brave. Many children pretend at times to be incompetent but when no one is looking they are very intelligent capable beings. And yes, many adults target children because they think they can do them whatever they want and they will stay quiet but not fearless Kevin, oh no. Joe Pesci aka Harry and Daniel Stern aka Marv learnt the true meaning of 'Pick on somebody your own size because big things do come in small packages at times.'

Here's a clip of one of my favourite scenes

Home Alone has to be the highlight of my Christmas every year. Kevin is accidentally left behind as his family goes on vacation in Paris. Kevin finds himself all alone with no one to turn to. On top of this he finds himself having to protect the neighbourhood as two crooks who rob homes as families goes away for Christmas stalk his neighbourhood. He sets traps and tricks throughout the neighbour hood for these foolish and clumsy burglars. His family of course has no idea of the drama that is unfolding back home with their forgotten child Kevin.

I often look at movies with an analytical view but this particular movie is really just an entertaining holiday movie that you can watch over and over and over with your family. Home Alone has become synonymous with Christmas and a mainstay in my family's Christmas traditions. A definite must see in my eyes.

Home Alone is a funny Christmas holiday movie. Its basically about this young child kevin whose parents forget him home alone while going to their christmas trip to Los Angeles. Upon finding out this information two clumsy thieves then try to trick him into letting them into the house in order for them to steal. He then out smarts them and beats them at all their clever stunts, injuring both of them and also having lots of fun while doing so. I like this movie and its direction. Its one of the Christmas classics and everyone should look at this movie.

Home Alone is a delightful movie with good acting, witha  great family plot and  supply of humor. There is a minimum of bad language and a very slight sexual acts.
However, the minor set backs still made the movie very enjoyable.
This movie is actually one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. i actually found myself looking at it over three times every year. The movie caotured my attention from the start to the end.

I could not stop laughing , actually my favorite part in the movie was how easily this lilttle child was able to fool these grown men every move! I honestly think it was a lillte too much for young children to watch however i still card it as the best family flim!

Headhunters

Every woman loves their classic romance / romance comedy movies but for a bit of a change I decided to do a review on an international movie that isn’t exactly romance but an example of great plot writing .

“Headhunters” is a 2011 Norwegian-German film directed by   Morten Tyldum. It is based on a novel by Jo Nesbo -Hodejegerne (The Headhunters). In its opening weekend, the film was seen by 104,000 Norwegian moviegoers, making it the second best opening weekend in Norwegian history.

The Film Begins with a narrative by the starring character, Roger Brown as he introduces himself and explains into his philosophy on the importance of reputation. Standing at only 5’6 Roger Brown is insecure about his height within his marriage to a very tall very beautiful gallery owner and refuses to give her any children as he is afraid that she would love them more than she loves him. Roger works as a “Headhunter” which is actually a term used to describe an executive recruitment agent. The plot then takes us into an entertaining adventure where Roger is pursued by businessman and aspiring pathfinder C.E.O. Clas Greve. In true hunter and prey fashion Roger the “Headhunter” becomes the hunted.

Roger begins to find himself in several do-or-die situations and realizes that several people whom he may have trusted may be involved in his pursuit until in the end where he realizes that one person in his life is worthy of his trust and he has no reason to feel insecure.

The Movie was quite entertaining with several action scenes and kept its viewers eager to see more with each step of the pursuit.  For me one scene that I couldn’t deal with was Roger’s out house scene (seen below) where roger has no choice but to climb into an out –house, covering himself with feces to mask his scent in order to avoid being sniffed out by Clas’ Dogo Argentino dog. This was a great movie and I would recommend everyone to see it.

The Orphan Movie Review

ORPHAN Mystery Thriller

The Perfect little girl  The Perfect Daughter The Perfect Family
The Perfect Plot

Quiero Vivir

The movie Orphan is the perfect example of why you cannot always trust the eyes to make all your judgements because- looks are deceiving. Esther who appears to be this sweet but somewhat mysterious little girl played by actress Isabelle Futhermore is really an old evil deadly woman. Now this is what I call the ugly truth.
Orphan definitely highlights the truth in life that sometimes you get more than what you bargained for and that you must be extremely careful of the people you allow into your home, allow your children to be around, interact with and the people you let down your guard with.
Who would have ever known this little girl was a nut case? Guess you never know what lies beneath or beyond a smile. People are so good at pretending that they do not only convince you but themselves as well.
This movie had my full interest with its suspense/mystery of finding out who Esther really was just before Alex Mace (writer) had the 'brilliant' idea of making this little girl a very sick woman instead. I found that part to be a bit much. As for the concluding scene, I was glad Esther was killed but that final climax was not the dramatic exit I was hoping for.
However, overall I liked this thriller. It really shows me how messed up evil crazy and wicked some persons can be. You may not always think that you have the perfect life but there are people like Esther (more than you can imagine) on the outside  looking in wanting your life trying to see how best they can get to come in and take it away. Just very scary and a bit creepy if you ask me.

--The Orphan was good. The most thrilling and exciting experiences I have ever encountered have been the product of reading books with a  twist or surprise wrapped in.From the beginning of the movie and the way it was marketed, I originally perceived , much like several other viewers, that the movie was basically about the devil's spawn or a demon possessed little girl that a family unfortunately adopts. It is only after watching the movie do you realize the twist in the plot and a more scientifically explanation behaviors and situations which were believed to be theological.
The most bizarre part was the fact that this girl that was assumed to be possessed turned out to be an actual grown woman with a dwarfism condition that allowed her to cheat aging. I think a lot of people who were considering adoption would either come caught in between the idea that ; "the chances of that happening is near nil" or "damn i am too freaked out, I don't think adoption would be an option for me. Generally I enjoyed The Orphan but would I watch it again, maybe on  a bad day  where I feel too lazy to change the station. Not exactly on my best list.

Amanda

Let me start by saying that I do not like or appreciate Horror films period. Orphan did not surprise me in any sense of the word and neither did it impress me. All it served to do was cultivate my dislike for Horror films.

The same story line as a million other Horror films before, strangers meet (in this case parents adopt Esther), strange things start happening, look into their past and find it filled with questions and secrets, the discoverer of the information tries to share it and no one believes them,  bad things happen, they start to believe and the problem either dies or is transferred in the end.

This movie was no different to the hundreds of Horror movies before and is not even worth a further review. I would not recommend this movie as in my opinion its just a cheap knock off to The Omen 4: The Awakening (2006). If you want true thrills and true scaredy cat moments then pop in Omen 4 and give it a watch.

Orphan is definitely not a movie I would recommend, poor imagery and a lame unsurprising twist. Bleeehhhhhh

This movie i really enjoyed and actually saw three times. The start of the movie i actually started thinking that this sweet, loving, friendly little girl called Esther was th perfect child. Eeveryone loved her and she actually fooled me.
This movie open my eyes to many things. Such as one must be careful when choosing adoption. Always get a personal background of the child. Secondly family comes first.
I found it hard to think that it took the father so long to actually believe his own wife, when so many problems was suddenly starting to occur when Esther arrived.

I love horror movies but actually this movie was not as scary as i expected. I enjoyed the ending, did not expect the twist and was actually thinking wow this little girl really evil! I kept saying in the movie i would have taking Esther right back to the home.

Aneisha

The Orphan is basically a movie about a seemingly lovely and well mannered child who was adopted by a lovely married couple, who she eventually made their lives a "living hell" with her psychotic behavior. She then deceives others with her charming personality and then when they are vulnerable she then bursts out into her evil streak. She also acts jealous of her step mother, and tries to turn her step father John against her by trying to seduce him.

The direction of the movie is great and i can see that a lot of thought was put into filming this movie. I myself was actually surprised by the behavior of Esther the troubled orphan. Not being a horror movie fan, i enjoyed watching this movie and would surely recommend it for the viewing of others.

THE VILLAGE Drama Mystery Thriller (2004)

A boss trailer but as for the movie on a whole WT_!

Quiero Vivir
Loving horrors as I did back then I went to the cinema hyped for this film did not want to miss it had to must see this on big screen. However, when the movie started I was like okay glad I came out...and then Boom! They decided to make those funny looking creatures in red people from the village- BIGGEST mistake ever and most disappointing! Yes I fully 100% get the concept of why they did what they did, in the village that is and the reasons behind why they created these red monsters but this is not a social film this is a horror and when you do your trailer so intense you do look a little deceitful to your viewing audience with that climax and ending. In every thriller horror mystery movie there is a underlying message but that should never take away from the intensity and scariness of the picture. This movie was rated the worst movie ever in 2004 simply because it had mislead its audience.
I honestly thought I would have been grabbing on to my chair closing my eyes and peeking through my fingers having viewed the trailer but all I ended up doing mid way right to the end was steupsing. This movie deserves a NAH! WHEEL AND COME AGAIN! [The Village take 2]. A complete fail and worst movie ever!
However, although the movie was a complete no doubt failure there was one actress that stood out to me and she is Bryce Dallas Howard. She did an excellent performance of Ivy Walker, the blind girl. She was on point and very convincing. Bryce went completely into character so much I had to Google after to make sure she was not blind in real. She was so good she was scary.

Amanda

I would definitely have to disagree with my fellow reviewers in this instance. I saw this movie in 2004 and I watched this movie again in 2012 and it still had the same effect on me ( but this time I knew what was happening).

The Village has to be the second most thought provoking and surprising movie I have ever seen in my life. Funnily enough these movies are both from the same writer/director M. Night Shyamalan; Sixth Sense and The Village. He has become famous for writing and directing films that give the viewer a bit more than the bang bang and sex that the big screen usually has to offer.

The entire movie is based around the town of Covington and its residents and the pact that they have made with some unspeakable creatures that live beyond the bounds of their small town. This film was thought provoking, gripping and had such an unbelievable plot twist to the end of the movie that even looking at it now, its still unbelievable how he kept the true story line a secret without losing your attention for one second.

Some people missed the entire basis behind the movie, which was the rich billionaire along with a group of friends wanted to live outside of the mainstream world and create a place without crime and sickness and all of the evils that inhabit the Earth. They moved them into a preservation grounds in order to facilitate the quiet and seclusion that they needed.

I am still pleasantly surprised as to how Shymalan kept the actual story line a secret so long. They play on people's fears both on screen and off to keep the suspense and mystery going. How else could you keep a secret for so long.

One of my favourite quotes from the movie "Never enter the woods, that is where THEY wait"

It was the PERFECT set up!!!!!!

In my opinion as an avid movie goer, I would say this movie could not be filed under horror but actually categorised as a drama and thriller. I believe this movie catered to and was received positively by persons who appreciated something different to the bang bang of the big screen.

A definite must see movie and a Director to follow.

When I first looked at the trailer of this film, and from what I had heard, I was quite excited to view what looked like an exciting fantasy, monster style horror movie. I could not wait to view the movie.  The other thing that caught my attention was that Joaquin Phoenix was starring in the film.

This movie was by far one of the worst horror movies of all time for me! I actually found myself either bored or laughing.  So let me start with the Aura seeing blind girl. Now, if this was a fantasy, as I had initially thought. Then a blind girl viewing peoples Aura's would be all very well and good. But this film is not set in a fantasy world. It was actually a horror!

A world where blind people do not see auras, in fact, blind people generally see nothing. Now if the Auras were the only thing that annoyed me the most I would not even think of mentioning it. But the stark moment of stupidity for me, was when this blind girl runs through a forest, not once, but twice. Secondly f a blind girl running through a forest she was actually running at a fast speed.  What made me laugh was the fact that she surprisingly missed he various millions of trees she encountered on her way.

Furthermore annoyed me about this film? The star of the film in my eyes was Joaquin Phoenix, and in many ways was one of the only reasons I watched the movie. So I was actually shocked and greatly displeased, when after only a short time, his part in the film was extinguished

Lastly, the next part and not ruin the movie. Someone gets hurt badly in the village. Out of everyone in the village guess who they picked! Of course they pick a blind girl to journey through a forest to get some medicine.  I get maybe it was to form some kind of suspense, however something else could have been taught through more sensibly.

Aneisha

The Village I must say is one of the worst and most horrible movies I have ever seen. I cannot imagine what the director of this movie was possibly thinking. The story line is very boring. The movie also portrays how wicked we humans can be. These few town leaders who had bad experiences in the "Normal world" decided to move to the woods and build a community in order to protect themselves from the outside world and told the very obedient villagers lies about creatures in the woods so that they wouldn't be curious to venture and find out that there is a better life beyond those woods. The "make shift" creatures in red coats and old animal claws was one of the most laziest ideas for a director to think about to put in a "Horror" movie. I for one WOULD NEVER recommend this film to anyone because it bored me to death and was a total snooze fest. Very horrible film!!!!!!!!!

Kristal

The Village was basically a movie about a group of people out of a town, who in attempt to protect themselves from the negativity in the world that comes along with change and modernization, isolate themselves to the outskirts of the town beyond the woodsy area surrounding the town, in order to preserve the customs and norms of their time period to which they are most comfortable. Free from violence and all the negative aspects associated with change. They use stories of monsters beyond their perimeter to manipulate their offspring into preserving their customs and fear of change. Aesthetically the movie was not very enjoyable for me however i identified their idea that by withholding knowledge it gave them the power to control the behavior of the group. Some may debate that religion, culture and politics work in a similar system and despite the way the idea was put together within the movie and the subtleness of the concept behind that, i was still able to understand the direction of the author and director.
